Exercising, working out and dieting can often be discouraging when you do not see the results you want. Ideally, you will want to burn fat and build muscle. In a lot of circumstances, one or the other will happen. However, there are effective ways in which you can lose fat and build muscle. To do so, you will have to have a good mixture of a healthy diet and a solid fitness routine.

Losing fat can be done a number of ways. A lot of people like to diet or fast for periods of time. One problem with that method is muscle is eaten away faster than fat. Therefore, you will not be able to build muscle. Second, people take some sort of diet pill that flushes your system of fat content. This can be very unhealthy and products often times are not regulated by the FDA. The third approach is done by lowering your fat intake and increasing your protein intake.

There are many little things you can do to lower your fat intake. First, cut out any unnecessary indulgences such as sweets, soda, fast-food or anything deep fried. Second, make minor cuts where you can. Instead of having mayo on your sandwich, try mustard or ketch-up. Cut your fat off your meal and add more dark veggies to your supper. Also, avoid eating late at night.

While these steps will help your body fat percentage, they will do nothing in ways of building muscle. To do this, you will need to increase your protein intake. Chicken, tuna, shrimp, mussels and salmon are among the best sources of protein. You can also purchase whey protein if you are looking to build muscle much faster.

Lastly, you will need to have a structured workout routine to build the muscle. Try working out at least four hours a week. One common mistake that people make is working out only one way. Make sure you mix it up. Instead of doing one hour of weight training, try doing only forty-five minutes and throw in some cardio. Also, dedicate one day to high rate cardio work outs.

Weight training does burn calories but not as much as running, rowing or biking. Cardio does two things for you. It will burn excess fat and help build muscle. Also, it increases your stamina and endurance. This allows for longer and more intense workouts.

It is tough to switch from eating whatever to low fat content foods. It is also hard to workout and run; but you have to consider that unless you make the drastic changes yourself, you will not be able to lose the fat and build the muscle. It is a slow process but well worth the time.
